CDA seeks world class hotel rooms in Islamabad for SCO 2027

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is looking for 4000 world class hotel rooms in Islamabad to accommodate international leaders and their delegations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in September, 2027. Pakistan is currently the president and SCO’s tradition is that its conference is held in the country of the current president unless special circumstances arise.

The CDA chairman noted that while Islamabad has more than 4000 hotel rooms available, around 1000 do not meet international standards. As a result, CDA has been encouraging the hotel industry to increase the number of rooms available and construct new hotels. CDA even held a conference of hotel owners and investors to that effect. The chairman noted that Islamabad will also be hosting other international events next year as well such as the South Asian Games and an IOC meeting. This initiative will improve availability of hotel rooms for that as well.

The CDA chairman has noted that in addition to hotels, the CDA will be adding places such as the Gandhara Club and various government owned facilities to its list of places to serve as a backup residence for SCO delegates.

CDA is already seeking construction of a new building, the New Islamabad Convention, Exhibition and Expo Centre (NICEEC) near Malpur area for which the bidding process is complete. NICEEC will be the primary venue for the SCO summit. Existing buildings such as the Jinnah Convention Centre and Pak-China Friendship Centre will host some of SCO’s events as well. The lowest bid received for NICEEC is Rs. 37 billion while sources say the cost for the project was estimated at Rs. 19.3 billion.
