The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has proposed that residents in housing societies managed by LDA should pay it maintenance charges on a monthly basis on the same model as private societies.
Currently, LDA has prepared a pilot project to charge residents of Jubilee Town and Avenue One. It has also proposed to charge residents of LDA Avenue. Based on the results, it might expand coverage to all the housing societies owned by LDA itself.
LDA estimates 600 residential properties for Jubilee Town, Avenue One and LDA Avenue and plans to charge homes Rs. 2500 to Rs. 3000 monthly as maintenance charges. For commercial properties, the rate will be Rs. 5000 to Rs. 6000 monthly.
LDA plans to use the collected funds for routine maintenance activities such as garbage collection, sewerage and upkeep and repair of green belts among other activities.
The proposal has not been approved yet. LDA’s Governing Body will have the final say on whether the charges will be levied or not on residents of societies managed by LDA.
