Apni Chhat Apna Ghar expanded?

Punjab Chief Minister has announced that the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Scheme will now offer loans to applicants for housing construction worth Rs. 2 million, an increase of Rs. 500,000 from the previous limit of Rs. 1.5 million. Furthermore, in her comments in Pakpattan, she expressed a desire to see 500,000 units of housing completed in Punjab in the next 5 years. Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Scheme was launched last year and up to this point, its loan disbursement model (referred to as Execution Model-3) was targeting 70,000 units of housing. If true, this will substantially increase the scope of the scheme. Pakistan is facing a housing crisis, with some estimates suggesting that it currently lacks 10 million housing units.

The CM also approved Rs. 62 billion for the Apni Chhat Apna scheme, which would provide at most 31,000 loans assuming all money ends up being disbursed. Apni Chhat Apna Ghar has provided loans to 5000 people since its launch in August 2024 and out of these 5000, 4200 housing units are nearing completion. The CM expressed a desire to expand the coverage of the scheme, targeting 40,000 applicants by May 2025 (35,000 new applicants in 4 months).
