Rawalpindi Cantonment Board expands its jurisdiction

The land dispute between Capital Development Authority (CDA) of Islamabad and Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) was resolved, with RCB announcing it will install markers to mark the new boundary. The dispute arose because several residents in the area that overlapped between CDA and RCB stopped paying their dues to RCB and instead began paying them to CDA. This caused losses to RCB. After the new master plan of Islamabad was approved by the federal cabinet, RCB will now incorporate the disputed land back in its jurisdiction.
RCB will now extend its jurisdiction to sectors G-13, G-14, H-13, H-15, I-12, and I-14 of Islamabad, areas that were previously under its jurisdiction before the dispute arose. The dispute arose because the boundaries of Islamabad were determined in 1963 while RCB’s boundaries were defined in 1957 leading to some confusion.
After this decision, residents of Golra Mor and Haji Camp are seeking clarification as they registered their land under Islamabad’s jurisdiction. They fear their property rights might be challenged and are awaiting clarification although RCB has assured that the changes will affect municipal services, tax collection and infrastructure development.
