April 2026 | Reading Time: 3 Min
The Lahore Excise Department has undertaken strict action against property tax defaulters. Commercial property tax defaulters had their buildings sealed while residential property tax defaulters were sent confiscation notices. The department threatened to seal 31,000 buildings across Lahore.
This development came about because some Rs. 500 million in tax dues had not been cleared, as per Director Excise. The target for Punjab is Rs. 33 billion in property tax for the Fiscal Year 2025-26 (FY 25-26). Out of this, Region B where Lahore falls accounts for Rs. 9 billion.
In the first 9 months of FY 25-26, Punjab has collected Rs. 22 billion in taxes out of which Region B accounts for Rs. 7 billion against a target of Rs. 7.5 billion, prompting the current crackdown.
| Annual Target | Achieved in 9 months | |
| Punjab Property Tax | 33 billion | 22 billion |
| Region B Property Tax | 9 billion | 7 billion |
The department gave the deadline of 10 April, 2026 after which the crackdown began.
