The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has frozen 457 properties belonging to Bahria Town Pvt. Ltd. and Malik Riaz’s son-in-law. Malik Riaz is the famous builder of Bahria Town and owns Bahria Town Pvt. Ltd.

NAB froze these properties in connection with the ongoing Al-Qadir Trust case worth £190 million which is controversial due to its political nature as well as the acquisition of property in Karachi’s Malir district by Bahra Town Pvt. Ltd. through illegal means (more details here). The Malir case states that some 16,896 acres were illegally acquired by Bahria Town officials through connivance of senior figures.

The properties frozen include properties of Bahria Town Pvt. Ltd. in multiple cities with 5 properties in Rawalpindi and 18 in Islamabad. Furthermore, 2 properties of Ahmad Ali Riaz, Malik Riaz’s son and 2 properties of Zain Malik, Malik Riaz’s son-in-law were also frozen.

According to NAB, the freeze will remain for 15 days, but it can be extended dependent on legal proceedings.
