RDA declares housing schemes illegal

Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has declared 157 housing schemes in the city illegal. According to the RDA, these housing schemes had applied for approval from the authority as well as the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) formally, but later withdrew their applications. However, they still continued their development unlawfully afterwards, misleading buyers.
As per RDA, it has initiated legal action against these schemes under Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and the Punjab Development Authorities Private Housing Scheme Rules 2021. It has lodged complaints in police stations. It has also moved to prohibit the sale and purchase of plots within these projects by sending a formal request to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Revenue.
